This cake is a real crowd pleaser! I cannot recall the first time I made this cake. All I know is that every time I bake one, it disappears in a matter of minutes. This recipe is very versatile. Feel free to use any type of jam or preserves that you have on hand. This cake comes together fairly quickly. Try it for your next family breakfast, brunch, or get-together!
Dinner is served! I recently had some leftover roasted chicken from the night before sitting in the fridge. I also discovered some veggies in there that needed to get used up. Whenever this happens, the first thing that comes to mind is chicken pot pie! This recipe is not only delicious, it's a great way to use up veggies that are lying around. Pancakes were very likely the first thing I made on the stove all by myself as a kid! Of course back in those days I used some sort of ready-prepared boxed baking mix. You know, just add milk and an egg! Well, all of that has changed. Today there is no good reason that I can think of for using a pre-packaged, or "boxed" pancake mix. Homemade pancakes consist of only a few simple ingredients. My recipe includes the addition of meringue to the batter for added lift! This recipe will have you cranking out wonderfully light and fluffy pancakes in no time at all! Click "Read More" for the details.
With spring just around the corner, I find myself already looking forward to summer. Summertime means tomatoes. I know its still early in the year, but I just couldn't help sharing this recipe now! Honestly, this recipe will turn any fresh tomatoes you have available into something special any time of the year. It's a perfect way to preserve tomatoes for use in sauces or any of your favorite recipes that need an intense tomato flavor kick! I like to keep a jar handy in the fridge whenever possible. Just the other day, I was rummaging through my refrigerator and found a few zucchini squash that needed to be put to good use. I happened to be craving something salty and fried, so I decided to whip up some fried zucchini. This recipe is fast and easy. The hardest part is trying to avoid eating them all up as you cook them! Perfect when it's cold outside... I'm not sure how long ago it was that I started preparing lentils? After all, we are traditionally a pinto beans kind of family. I believe that I was originally attracted to cooking with lentils because of the short cooking time when compared to other bean varieties. This highly versatile recipe is great for warming up on a chilly day! Click "Read More" for the details... Late Harvest Heirloom Tomatoes... Last week, my lovely wife Annette brought home some really nice heirloom tomatoes. A friend was clearing out the last of the summer vegetables in their garden. It is late in the harvest season here in the Russian River Valley. Most of the wine grapes have been harvested. Venus is clearly visible in the evening sky. The nights are beginning to cool, and the feeling of autumn is in the air. This means that these heirloom tomatoes will not fully ripen. As you can see in the photo above, many of the tomatoes are still green. Fear not! These tomatoes are a perfect fit for a tangy late harvest salsa verde. Bella was ill with cancer. Her owner loved her very very much. Sadly, she could not keep her in her new home due to the lease agreement. One of Bella's favorite things to do was eat the apples that would fall from the trees in the yard of her old home. Ordinarily, I like to include a picture of the finished product. However, this particular pie was gone before I could get a good picture of the final product. Perhaps, it is just a personal reminder of our temporal nature in this world? This apple pie recipe is dedicated to her memory. Rest in peace Bella we will never forget you! :)
A quiche is a wonderful dish that goes together very easily and is a great crowd pleaser. Kinda like pizza, a quiche is infinitely variable. Throw in whatever strikes your fancy! This recipe combines two of my favorite ingredients (pesto and feta cheese) into one pie! Make one for your next party, or family meal! Click "Read More" for the details...

AuthorI have been baking breads, pies, cakes, and other treats ever since I was old enough to turn on the oven by myself. Although baking is my first love, I'm pretty good at the other stuff too! Over the years I have prepared everything from a pot of beans, to a whole roasted pig over an open fire! Archives
